Master of Intellectual Property (MIP) Programme
Members of the NZCIP teach intellectual property subjects or courses across an array of programmes at the University.
Our flagship IP programme is the Master of Intellectual Property (MIP). The MIP comprises advanced courses in IP, which are accredited by the Trans-Tasman IP Attorneys Board. The MIP is the first programme of its type in New Zealand. More information about the MIP programme can be found here. The Law School also offers a 60-point Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property programme (PGCertIP). Further information about the PGCertIP can be found here.
In addition to the MIP, our members teach on several IP courses as part of the LLB degree. These include:
- LAWCOMM 458: Intellectual Property
- LAWCOMM 433: Copyright and Design
- LAWCOMM 463: Trade Marks and Related Rights
- LAWCOMM 462: Patents and Related Rights
LAWCOMM 458: Intellectual Property is one of the most popular electives at the Law School.
Members of the NZCIP from the Department of Commercial Law also deliver several courses on IP law, including COMLAW 320: Intellectual Property and Innovation, SCIENT 704: Law and Intellectual Property (as part of the Masters of Bioscience Enterprise programme) and also offers COMLAW 306, Marketing Law, which covers a number of important IP topics. Furthermore, INFOGOV 708, Intellectual Property Law and Information, will be offered from 2026 as part of the Master of Information Governance Programme.
