Our people
Te Wai Ariki is fortunate to have a dynamic team of Māori academics and leaders as well as friends and colleagues who all work together to research, advocate for, and teach coming generations on the rights of Māori and Indigenous peoples more broadly.
Our people come from across Aotearoa, from various iwi, whānau and hapū. We are also close to many of our Indigenous brothers and sisters from across the world. Of all Aotearoa New Zealand’s law schools, Te Wai Ariki has particular expertise in international law and politics related to Indigenous peoples.
Strategic Leadership: Our Kāhui Pou Tikanga
Te Wai Ariki was thrilled that Auckland Law School appointed Annette Sykes as its first Māori adjunct professor to lead a newly established Kāhui Pou Tikanga to provide leadership in the law school’s endeavours to become a bi-jural and bi-cultural law school. The Kāhui met for the first time in March 2022.
