From an LLM at Auckland Law School, to pursuing PhD at the University of British Columbia.
Auckland Law School was the clear choice for my LLM, as a community of academics who are both experts in their field and passionate educators. Throughout my studies I felt supported by supervisors who genuinely cared about my wellbeing and learning needs.
Studying at Auckland gave me plenty of opportunities to personalise my LLM to suit my goals. I started my Masters curious about a career in environmental law or educational policy. After raising this with my supervisors, they actively supported me to do research in these fields and to substitute one of my law papers with a course on global educational policy. This all helped me to land a great policy role at the Ministry of Education after graduating.
I’ve especially appreciated my supervisors’ interest in my development even after completing my LLM. They’ve since supported me to publish one of my papers, and aided my applications when I decided to pursue further study overseas. All this, alongside Auckland Law School’s strong reputation abroad, opened some amazing doors for me including alternate candidacy with Fulbright New Zealand and several offers from major North American law schools.
I’m now incredibly excited to begin funded study towards my PhD in Law at the University of British Columbia. My research will build on my LLM by exploring how pragmatic eco-constitutional reform could empower global climate action. Studying at Auckland definitely inspired me to aim high and think big about how my research can contribute to positive social change.
