The University of Auckland's blend of academic rigor, welcoming facilities, and diverse and open-minded culture motivated Gunnar to study here.
The lectures here are more than just informative—they're transformative. The direct input from excellent lecturers and the opportunity to hold academic discussions in the classroom gave me invaluable insights into the areas taught.
“The lecturers are excellent and give stimulating lectures. Beyond the courses, the University of Auckland's staff go the extra mile to support you in every way. You never get the feeling that you are alone with a potential issue.”
This year, my greatest challenge turned into my most significant achievement. Adapting to the common law system from my civil law background, especially in international law contexts, was initially complex. But this challenge opened my eyes to new legal perspectives, enriching my understanding and approach to law, particularly when handling cases across various jurisdictions.
Outside the classroom, I'm actively involved in the Volleyball club. Being a part of the University of Auckland Volleyball Club (UoAVC) has made it easier for me to connect with fellow students and build friendships.
Upon returning to Germany, I'll resume my career as a lawyer. The master's degree I'm pursuing here, enriched with all the knowledge and experiences gained, will significantly enhance my professional capabilities, especially in international matters. It also promises to improve my client communication and my overall development within my firm.
At the University of Auckland, learning from top-notch lecturers and mingling with students from diverse backgrounds has been a journey of professional and personal growth. In addition, the existing structures for supporting students are excellent, so there is never a feeling of helplessness. This experience shapes your personality and leaves you with experiences that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
