Exceptional circumstances can be
- Illness
- Injury
- Exceptional events beyond your control
What is a late deletion?
A late deletion means that you
- Request to be unenrolled from your current course(s) after the date to change your enrolment
- Have your current course(s) removed from your academic record
Eligibility for a late deletion
To apply for a late deletion
- You must be experiencing personal circumstances that are unforeseen and beyond your control.
- Your personal circumstances impact your ability to complete your study in one or more courses during a semester or quarter.
- You must submit your application before the last day of lectures in the same semester and quarter that you're studying your course(s) and requesting a deletion for.
If you're experiencing exceptional circumstances, we recommend getting in touch with Te Papa Manaaki, Campus Care before applying for a late deletion.
Alternatively, you can visit another independent professional adviser.
Please note that there are some circumstances that normally do not qualify for late deletion

How to apply for a late deletion

You must submit a cover letter and any supporting evidence from an independent professional adviser, like a medical doctor or counsellor.
You must submit your application before the last day of lectures in the same semester or quarter that you're studying your course(s) and requesting a deletion for.
You cannot apply retrospectively.
After you apply
After you apply for a late deletion and it has been assessed, you will receive an email to your student email address confirming the outcome of your application.
You can check out the steps that your application will go through by visiting the Applying for a late deletion page.
Important things to know
- Late deletions cannot be applied retrospectively. This is because once all grades have been completed and entered into the system for a semester or quarter, the grades are set and unable to be changed under any circumstances.
- After the end of a semester or quarter, the University is unable to make changes to your academic record. This is because your academic record is a historical record of your studies at the University of Auckland. This is a legal requirement under the Education and Training Acts 2020.
For more information, see Issues with Enrolment.
A and B courses: double-term courses
The following applies to courses that can be taken in semesters or quarters.
You must delete both the A and B components in order to delete completely delete the course.
If you are eligible for a fee refund for a double-semester or double-quarter course, it will apply to the total fees for the course (both the A and B component). This is the case even if you are enrolled in the B component in a later term and that term hasn’t started yet.
- For example, if a student has a late deletion approved for a course with an A and B component in May and is eligible for a 50% refund, this will be 50% of the fee for both the A and B component.
If your late deletion for a double term course is approved and you are eligible for a partial refund, the same refund amount and the amount of fees payable will be the same for both A and B components, even if the B component term hasn’t started yet.
