Course load conversions

Learn more about course load conversions and expectations for students studying on exchange.

Credit and course load requirements

Course and credit weighting can vary from country to country and institution to institution. Students studying on exchange often need to combine courses in pairs or sets to bring back 60 University of Auckland points where the standard full-time course load at the host university is more or less than 4 courses.

360 International will only be able to post credit for courses taken during your exchange where:

  • prior department and faculty approval has been confirmed;
  • the stated course load requirements have been met;
  • and you have received passing grades at the host university.

Credits can only be posted in increments of 15 points (with the exception of Law credit, which may be credited in increments of 5).

Where the standard full-time course load at the host university is more or less than four courses, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have taken appropriate courses in a corresponding pair, set, or bundle for full credit to be applied upon return.

Credit and course load conversions

A standard full-time course load is the normal number of credits a degree-seeking student must take at the host university to graduate on schedule. You must pass a standard full-time course load at the host university to bring back 60 points of credit on return.

The minimum full-time course load may be less than the standard full-time course load. It is often the minimum number of credits required to maintain your visa status in the host country.

  • 3-4 ECTS courses should be paired or bundled, paying attention to total overall courseload.
