Inaugural Lecture: Professor Janet Fanslow

Date: 26 September 2024

Title: On family violence, feminism and being formidable

In her inaugural lecture, Janet spoke on how a kid from central Iowa gets to Aotearoa New Zealand and winds up building a career looking for solutions to family violence.  Key threads include strong family influences, a penchant for reading science fiction and fantasy novels and commitment to trying to make the world a better place.  Great people and great opportunities provided some major stepping stones along the way. In re-capping her journey, and describing some of the impacts of her work, she also talked about the importance of science walking alongside community and practice responses to family violence, and will signal some key next steps needed for the field.
