How do your genes affect your muscle mass and strength?

We are investigating how genes unique to Māori and Pacific people affect lean muscle mass and muscle strength.

What's involved?

This will involve you coming into the Grafton Campus of the University of Auckland (85 Park Road) for a 1-2 hour visit.

Participants will be reimbursed for their involvement.

The following tests will be completed:

  • A blood sample will be collected for analysis of your blood sugar levels and genes
  • Questionnaires about your physical activity history and diet
  • Body scan (DEXA): this tells us where and how much muscle and fat you have in your body.
  • Hand grip and leg strength tests which tells us about you overall muscle strength and function
