Psilocybin mushroom variability and consumer safety

The University of Auckland is exploring the link between psilocybin mushroom variability and consumer safety. The study investigates how psilocybin mushrooms are used in Aotearoa and their effects. It involves testing magic mushrooms' dose and safety through a legal, confidential, drug checking service.

What's involved?

Participants can opt to take part in either or both stages and all participation is confidential with no personal information collected.

For Stage One, participants engage in 30-minute, semi-structured, in-person interviews about their experiences with psilocybin mushrooms. These interviews are booked anonymously and take place at the Clinical Research Centre, University of Auckland, Grafton.

Stage Two involves completing online surveys about people's broader use of psilocybin mushrooms and specific experiences. They can also bring mushroom samples to the University of Auckland for dose and safety testing through a licensed drug checking service.
