Toto Kona: Exploring Experiences of Sepsis in the Tongan Community
The University of Auckland is conducting a study for Tongan people in New Zealand with sepsis. The research looks at partipipants' perspectives and aims to propose a Tongan term that describes sepsis.
What's involved?
This involves voluntary participation in one virtual Talanoa session via Zoom at a mutually agreed day and time and will take no longer than one hour. The Talanoa session will be audio-visually recorded. It will centre on Tongan people's perspectives and experiences of sepsis.
The findings from this study can assist decision makers in shaping health information resources that target Pasific people by acknowledging and listening to their voices.
Eligibility criteria
To participate in this study, you must:
- Identify as being of Tongan ethnicity and have access to technology to participate in a Talanoa session on Zoom
- Be aged 16 years or above
- Provide written consent to share your experience and perspectives with sepsis or toto kona
- Be willing to share your experiences during an online forum, primarily speaking the English language with occasional use of Tongan terms that have no literacy translations into the English language
- Live in Aotearoa New Zealand
