Tristram Allen
Currently studying toward a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences specialising in Advanced Nursing, Tristram chose to continue his postgraduate studies in Whangārei at the Tai Tokerau Campus in Northland.
“I love the idea of staying local, studying in my home of Whangārei and being able to learn more about the field of Nursing, which I’m passionate about. My partner and my son live here, so it’s a natural decision to stay with my whanau and be a part of the community.
The Tai Tokerau Campus has its own welcoming and supportive nature and being LGBTQ+ inclusive, it really drew me in. The staff and my fellow students are all members of the community who share similar values, which was important to me when choosing where to study.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the small class sizes and personalised learning alongside other Māori students. The programme has really helped me to develop my own strength, determination and mana. I’m the first person in my whānau to have a degree, and I want to be able to give back to my iwi.”
