Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences in Mammography

The PGCertHSc (Mammography) programme  is designed for medical imaging technologists (MITs) and radiation therapists seeking to provide high level expertise in breast imaging and is driven by the requirements of clinical services including BreastScreen Aotearoa (BSA).

Entry to this programme is restricted to students who have already obtained a clinical training position in a University of Auckland approved mammography department.

MRTB Approved

Our PGCertHSc (Mammography) programme is approved by the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB).

This qualification is also an MRTB approved pathway for:

  • Radiation therapists to practise in mammography
  • Return to work pathway for medical imaging technologists to return to work in mammography only.*

* Please note this pathway must be approved by the Board before study is commenced.

At this stage, we do not offer this particular programme to students residing outside of New Zealand as assessment of clinical competency is embedded within the programme.

Entry

To gain admission to the PGCertHSc(Mammography), a student must:

  • Have completed a qualification in medical imaging or radiation therapy, and
  • Hold current registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) in the Medical Imaging Technologist or Radiation Therapist scope of practice, or provide evidence of registration (or other evidence of the right to work) as a medical imaging technologist or radiation therapist in their country of domicile, and
  • Confirm that they have secured employment in a clinical training position approved by the Programme Director (or delegate).

In addition, assessment of clinical competency will occur in the student’s workplace throughout the duration of the student’s enrolment within this programme.  

Failure to demonstrate a minimum level of competency at specific time points may result in the student being unable to proceed in the programme.

Regulations

This programme has a total enrolment clause of 90 points. This is the maximum number of points you can enrol in (including failed or withdrawn courses) towards this programme.
