“The course has allowed me to improve my nursing practise and to be a better navigator, by increasing my knowledge in 'talanoa' and applying theories to our Pasifika culture and values, for example, Pacific onto-epistemology.

The micro-credential has given me better understanding of the Whanau ora model and being able to apply to the families I work with

Setaita Ha’unga Graduate: Improving wellbeing outcomes for Pacific families micro-credential

“From my experience, I believe the most pressing health issue with our Pasifika communities is poor health literacy, as a result of lack of understanding and not asking questions. Most of our families are too 'ma' (shy) to ask doctors and nurses questions, and will often respond with 'yes they understand' or 'no they don't have any questions'. Pasifika peoples prioritise religion and family and not health, which reflects our poor health outcomes in Aotearoa.”
