Taught course formats
We understand that personal, family and work commitments are important factors when deciding whether to study, so we offer taught course options to fit with your lifestyle.
- Weekly workload per course: Approximately 12 hour per week of study (in addition to lectures)
- Total workload per course: As a general guide, 150 hours for a 15pt course
Below is a general description of the Postgraduate law course formats. Each course will typically have 3-4 assessments. Some exclusion applies, for instance, courses that are co-badged with an Undergraduate law or Honours seminar course.
Courses are only offered in Semesters One and Two. Find more information on Important Dates.
Full-Semester courses
- Lecture Dates: Begins week one of each semester
- Lecture hours: 3 hours per week in the early evening (e.g., 5-8 pm)
- Course Duration: 12 weeks
- Final assessment: typically due at the end of the lectures
- Course material availability: by the start of the semester
Part-Semester courses
- Lecture Dates: Varies throughout the semester
- Lecture hours: 3 hours per week in the early evening (e.g., 5-8 pm)
- Course Duration: 6-8 weeks
- Final assessment: typically due at the end of the lectures
- Course material availability: by the start of the semester
Intensive courses
The intensive courses are taught in a concentrated format
- Lecture Dates: Varies throughout the semester
- Lecture hours: from 9am to 5pm
- Course Duration:
o 15 pt courses: 3 days
o 30 pt courses: 5 days (usually incorporating a weekend break) - Final assessment: typically due 8-10 weeks after classes end
- Course material availability: approximately one month before classes start
Double-Semester, Intensive courses
There are two double-semester, intensive courses offered for the Master of Taxation Studies (MTaxS) programme: COMLAW 740AB Tax Base and LAWCOMM 775AB International Taxation.
- Course Start: Semester One of each academic year
- Lecture Dates: Varies throughout the semester
- Lecture hours: from 9 am to around 5 pm
- 30-point Course Duration: 3 days, in Semesters One and Two
Note: Students enrolling into these courses must enrol in the A and B component.
