Pacific Law Week 2024

Monday 15 July – Friday 19 July 2024

PLW

We should not be defined by the smallness of our islands but in the greatness of our oceans. We are the sea; we are the ocean. Oceania is us.

Epeli Hau‘ofa

This year sees the launch of the first-ever Pacific Law Week at Auckland Law School! There are currently over 400 Moana Oceania tauira pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Law School. The goals of the Pacific Law Week are to:

  • foster an inclusive community at Auckland Law School where Moana Oceania peoples (students, staff and others) feel valued, respected, and empowered;
  • welcome Moana Oceania tauira – especially those in first year – back to the Law School, and help them re-set their intentions and study practices for semester two;
  • recognise and celebrate the success and valuable contributions of Moana Oceania peoples to Auckland Law School and the legal profession;
  • increase dialogue and promote awareness of legal issues facing Pacific peoples in Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider Pacific Island region; and
  • promote collaboration and partnership between/within the FOLAU Team, Moana Oceania Law Student Groups at Auckland Law School, the Faculty of Law, the University of Auckland, and key community stakeholders.

We are delighted to present a range of events that aim to contribute towards these goals:
