Novel probiotics for the treatment of common diseases
PhD Project
The Gut Bugs Research team is conducting clinical trials of fecal microbiome transfer across a range of conditions, including obesity, metabolic syndrome, autism, anorexia, and C difficile infection. From our clinical studies, we seek to identify specific combinations of gut bacteria associated with improved clinical outcomes. We will then isolate these bacteria, characterise them (to the strain level) and culture them to create novel probiotics, which will then be taken to clinical trials.
There is an opportunity to participate in this cutting-edge research as a PhD student working with our team. Current PhD opportunities lie mainly in lab-based work in bacterial isolation and culture.
