"I chose the University of Auckland as it offers a wide variety of Arts subjects, including Art History, which many other New Zealand universities do not provide. Once I began studying, I was impressed by the Communication department, which was welcoming, engaging and innovative.
"I enjoyed the range of eras, subjects, and approaches studied in Art History. It's not only a great intellectual and creative discipline, but the small classes provide a unique teaching experience where you build close relationships with tutors, lecturers, and classmates.
"The practical elements of the Communication major, like working in television studios, learning key industry software and the opportunity to work with real companies, is invaluable.
Once I graduate, I intend to follow my love of arts into a career at either an art gallery or art dealership, allowing me to use the skills and knowledge I have learnt in both my Art History and Communication majors.
"Being a student at the Faculty of Arts is a creative and entertaining experience. The department is full of welcoming individuals who aren't afraid to express and share their passions. There is always a sense of eagerness to learn and explore new interests with others, creating an environment where inclusivity and innovation are a priority.
"Being a student here feels like being a part of a close-knit team in one of New Zealand's most dynamic and intriguing cities. With so many people, it is almost inevitable that you will find a group of like-minded individuals who will become friends and supporters for life. The city's main campus is in the heart of the city, so the nightlife and daytime activities are endless.
"Throughout my degree, I have been involved in the Art History Society, the Art Scholars programme and had a position as a producer at the student radio station 95bFM.
"The Art History Society allowed me to follow my passion for Art History outside the classroom, find a group of equally enthusiastic friends and network with others in my future career.
"Volunteering at 95bFM was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of a popular radio station. My role on the news team gave me first-hand experience interviewing a wide variety of people, from CEOs to MPs to charity organisers.
"Once I graduate, I intend to follow my love of arts into a career at either an art gallery or art dealership, allowing me to use the skills and knowledge I have learnt in both my Art History and Communication majors.
"My advice to potential undergraduate students is to give every opportunity a go, even if it scares you. By pushing yourself and trying new things at the University, you will open doors academically, socially, and professionally that you would never have thought were possible."
