Histology services

The Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging offers a full Histology service available to all faculty and external users. This facility offers a broad range of high quality histological techniques on a fee-for-service basis to investigators. See below for the services provided.

Training in histological methods:

Equip yourself with essential histological skills through our comprehensive training programs on:

• Microtome Sectioning of Paraffin-Embedded Blocks
• Cryostat Sectioning of Frozen Samples

Processing and embedding tissues:

Automatic processing and embedding of tissue samples into wax blocks.

Microtomy:

Precision cutting of embedded tissues on a microtome for subsequent staining on glass slides.

Cryostat sectioning:

Sectioning of fresh frozen samples and OCT embedded tissue on a cryostat, facilitating immunohistochemistry or special stains.

Histochemistry:

Explore a spectrum of staining techniques at our Histology Laboratory, ranging from routine Haematoxylin and Eosin stains to specialized options like Gram stain, Masson's Trichrome, Elastic Van Gieson stains, etc. Our expertise covers a diverse palette of staining methods for comprehensive tissue analysis.

Immunohistochemistry:

Identification of cell types based on antibody binding to antigens and cell components.

Histology request form:

Submit your histology requests conveniently through the Histology request form.

Training form:

Enrol in our histological training programs using our Training form.

• The Histology Facility is unavailable during weekends and public holidays for safety reasons.
•  Access is restricted to trained staff and students who have undergone training by Dr. Farqad Abdulqader.
