About the department
The University of Auckland Department of Audiology is part of the School of Population Health within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. It was the first in New Zealand, and offers excellence in audiological training.
Hearing loss is ranked as one of the most common chronic health conditions and affects people across the lifespan. There is growing awareness of the impact of hearing loss and how it impacts individuals, communities, and health governance on a national and global perspective. The need for professionals who are equipped to provide screening, diagnosis and (re)habilitation for individuals with hearing loss is anticipated to continue to grow over the coming years.
Our teaching
Our main teaching programme is the Master of Audiology degree. It is a 2 year programme equipping students with knowledge and skills relevant to clinical audiology.
We offer research-based PhDs and staff offer supervision in many areas including laboratory, clinical and population health research.
Part of our teaching is through our Hearing and Tinnitus Clinic, with strong links with Speech Science, Physiology and other departments belonging to the School of Population Health.
