Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland has many scholarships available for doctoral study, including centrally funded, faculty funded, research grant funded, and philanthropically funded scholarships.
University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship
The University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship is awarded for up to 36 months of doctoral study and comprises an annual stipend of $33,000 in 2023 (with annual CPI adjustment) plus compulsory tuition fees, including the single student Health Insurance compulsory charge for international students.

All students who are offered a place in a doctoral programme are eligible for scholarship consideration.
Māori and Pacific students with a GPA of 7.0 or above who are offered a place in a doctoral programme will be guaranteed a scholarship.
Each faculty has an allocation of scholarships to be awarded to doctoral candidates based on the faculty’s strategic objectives.
The Business School will award up to 11 University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarships in 2023.

Business School funded doctoral scholarships
University of Auckland Business School Dean's Doctoral Scholarship
A scholarship to support international and domestic, full-time and part-time PhD students in the Business School with a value of up to $33,000 per annum.
The scholarship was established in 2015 and is intended to encourage and support academically excellent students to undertake their first full or part-time doctoral study on a pre-determined topic that falls within the Strategic Research Themes of the faculty: productivity and sustainability, innovation and value creation, leadership and governance and internationalization.

Barry Spicer and Owen G Glenn PhD Scholarship
For full-time PhD enrolment in the Business School, up to $30,000 per annum plus fees, for domestic and international students.
The scholarship was established in 2008 and is funded by an endowment held by the University of Auckland Foundation donated by Sir Owen G Glenn. This scholarship supports students who are researching a topic that has the potential to impact business and business development in New Zealand and/or internationally.

Matthew S. Abel PhD Scholarship
A three year scholarship to support international and domestic PhD students in the Business School, valued at up to $30,000 per annum.
The scholarship was established in 2009 and is funded by the MSA Charitable Trust. It supports students who are undertaking research in either the global competitiveness of New Zealand businesses; applied economics or business problems that are directly relevant to New Zealand businesses; macroeconomics; or interactions between Asian and New Zealand businesses.

A $2,000 award for masters or PhD study in the Department of Property.
The Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust First Year Doctoral Award
To support women students in their first year of full-time enrolment in a PhD or named Doctorate at the university.
The Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust Dame Dorothy Winstone Doctoral Completion Award
An award of up to $16,000 to support women doctoral students to make substantial progress towards completion of a PhD or named Doctorate at the university.
Kelliher Economics Foundation PhD Scholarship in Economics
A scholarship of up to $15,000 per annum to assist a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time in a PhD in Economics.

A scholarship to support a Fulbright Award recipient to complete their masters degree or PhD at the University of Auckland.
