Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour
Context
People are at the heart of the ever-evolving world of work. Our research seeks to address, and innovate in, a range of areas relating to work and people in contemporary organisations. Organisational behaviour (OB) researchers examine human behaviour within the context of organisations and Human Resources Management (HRM) researchers principally study the ways in which the management of work and people affects organisational performance and employee wellbeing.
Internationally, we are recognised for the following main themes:
Organisational behaviour
Our research brings together expertise in areas critical to enhancing workplace wellbeing, including leadership, careers, work-family complexities and psychological and mental health at work.
A few of our research projects and specialities are:
- Leadership, psychological wellbeing, job demands-resources, work intensification, work-family nexus, dual careers, mental health, Māori workforce wellbeing, person-organisation fit, social cohesion, politics, justice.

We have a strong focus on strategic HRM, encompassing how HR strategy varies across organizational, industry and societal contexts and how it affects outcomes for organizations, employees and societies.
Current research streams incorporate:
- the process approach to strategic HRM
- models of HRM and employee wellbeing
- the relationship between technological change and HRM

Research Methodologies and Methods / Research Design
Another of our internationally recognised areas of expertise is OB research methodologies. The development in OB methodologies allows for much greater nuance and understanding of people, organisations and behaviour. Advances in methodology allow for greater insight into the world of work and help us progress solutions.
Our projects include:
- Structural Equation Modelling; Measurement Equivalence/Invariance; Moderated Mediation; Latent Interaction; Congruence/Disagreement/Fit Analyses
