Networking and industry engagement
Studying with the Department of Property includes valuable opportunities to network with industry professionals and to enjoy social activities at the University of Auckland Business School.
Career evenings
Career evenings for final year Property students are organised by participating companies, hosted at their premises. You will have the opportunity to network with staff and recent graduates, to mingle informally, ask questions and learn about job opportunities. Companies that have taken part include Colliers International, Bayleys, Jones Lang LaSalle and CBRE.
Meet the alumni evening
This evening is organised for Property students to meet recent successful graduates who are invited to share their experiences on jobs in the property industry. Graduates give their insights into a variety of property careers, how to secure a job and how to sell yourself to potential employers.
The Auckland University Property Students Society
The Auckland University Property Students Society (AUPSS) is run by, and for, students in the Department of Property. Its activities include organising the Women in Property event, barbecues and other social functions.
AUPSS' aim is to encourage links with property graduates, with professionals and between students in the department. Student coordinators and a committee are elected at the beginning of the year. All Property students are invited to get involved.
Property Connect
The department’s bi-annual newsletter highlights important activities during the year and connects the department and students with the industry.
Annual Property Dinner
The extremely successful Annual Property Dinner is attended by staff, students, graduates and industry representatives. The dinner provides an opportunity to acknowledge student achievements, reward top scholars, network with the industry, celebrate the future of property, and reflect on the past year.
Buddy programme
The department hosts an innovative buddy programme that matches Stage 2 Property marketing students with professional mentors. There will be an opportunity to spend several days per semester with some of Auckland's most experienced property professionals.
The programme helps students to gain commercial insight and experience in various property disciplines and professions, including management, development, finance and investment, valuation, real estate leasing, and sales and marketing.
Stage 3 students can participate in the Coffee Mate Speed Networking programme, sponsored by members of the Property Institute of New Zealand (Valuation), giving them the opportunity to partake in a one-to-one information-gathering interview with an industry professional.
Staff-Student Consultative Committee
This committee comprises of class representatives from each of the undergraduate courses, one representative of the graduate students, and staff of the Department of Property.
Meetings are held twice every semester, providing a forum for students to discuss their concerns. Class representatives are elected within the first two weeks of each semester.
