Hiring international students

International students make up more than 20 percent of our Business School student population and offer a unique set of skills and experiences.

Benefits

Our international students are highly motivated. They are driven to succeed and wish to see a return on their substantial investment in their New Zealand education. They also bring a diversity of thought and a broader perspective to business.

International students often speak more than one language and this can assist you in promoting your product or services overseas. In addition, they have intercultural communication skills, cultural awareness and knowledge of foreign business practices. Their knowledge of overseas markets can give you an important added dimension.

Recruitment

Some students are able to work for up to 20 hours a week during the academic year and some may work full-time during breaks. Students studying in some fields are eligible for work visas to enable them to fulfil practical course requirements.

Recruiting international students post-study is now more straightforward than ever. Changes to post-study work visas came into effect on 26 November 2018.

What are the changes?

  • A three-year open post-study work visa for a Level 7 bachelors degree qualification or higher is now available, if students have studied that qualification for at least 30 weeks in New Zealand.
  • People granted new post-study work visas will no longer be required to work for a specific employer. Instead, they will be able to work for anyone.
