Women in Supply Chain - Maneuvering Through Chaos in Europe and New Zealand
At our first Women in Supply Chain (WISC) event in 2022, Louise Wood, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Sanford Fisheries and one of our founders, interviewed Lindsay Haselhurst, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Currys in the UK.
Lindsay told the story of her professional journey, from the start in the much male-dominated supply chain field in her early days to high-rank management roles overseeing the recent crises in global supply chains.
She talked about her first-hand management experiences in the absolute chaos of the early days of the pandemic, where the huge fluctuations in demand with no advice or playbook available made this the most challenging time of her career. Not only has the crisis lingered on, but it has also worsened through Brexit, lockdowns in China, and now the Ukraine war.
Lindsay explained how technology had been a gamechanger for supply chains to be able to survive. As a manager, she found taking risks and not being conservative to be essential skills to make decisions in such uncertain times. Moreover, she defined communication through the organisation as a key to keeping clarity and cohesion and moving forward.
In the end, she introduced flexibility and agility as vital abilities for supply chains in the future.
In the second part of this event, Andrea Manley, Strategy and Innovation at Napier Port and one of our founders, reported the results of the WISC survey conducted last year and the mentorship program.
