From the Director's desk December 2022

Aadhaar Chaturvedi, Senior Lecturer ISOM & Deputy Directory CSCM

Welcome to the last edition of Supply Chain Link for 2022.

Most of you might already be aware that Professor Tava Olsen recently moved to the Melbourne Business School as Deputy Dean Academic. She served as director of the Centre of Supply Chain Management (CSCM) for more than ten years, shaping the centre into what it is today. We thank her for leading the centre over the years and wish her the best in her new role.

In this edition, Subhamoy Ganguly, senior lecturer in the department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM), tells us about two essential traits in managing supply chains in times of disruption: robustness and resilience. He explains the subtle differences between these two concepts, their different measures, and which is more vital in different situations.

Na Luo, a post-doctoral fellow at ISOM, also presents her recent study, published in The International Journal of Logistics Management, on the food supply chain waste in New Zealand during the pandemic. This study provides the government, food supply chain practitioners, and New Zealand consumers with strategies and solutions to reduce this waste. Next, Param Iyer, PhD student at ISOM, gives us his opinion on the government’s price control policies for supermarkets during the Covid pandemic.

Furthermore, we have a report on the workshop CSCM organized in November on supply chain resilience. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for supply chain academics and practitioners around Aotearoa to come together, share their views on supply chains, and build future collaborations. We had academics from Massey University, the University of Otago, Auckland University of Technology, the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University, and the University of Auckland. We also had many guests from the industry, such as Fonterra, Ports of Auckland, Kuehne+Nagel, Goodman Fielder, Sanfield, MainFreight, Fisher and Paykel Healthcare.

I also wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you get a well-deserved break!

Aadhaar Chaturvedi,

Senior Lecturer ISOM & Deputy Directory CSCM
