WISC Report: Going the Distance – Building Resilience in Business and Sport
A summary of the first Women in Supply Chain (WISC) event in 2023.
Going the Distance – Building Resilience in Business and Sport Last month, on March 28, the Centre for Supply Chain Management (CSCM) organized a Women in Supply Chain event with Gráinne Moss, Chief Executive & System Lead Pay Equity, at Te Kawa Mataaho, Public Service Commission.
Before joining Te Kawa Mataaho, Gráinne was the first Secretary of Children and Chief Executive at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children. At Oranga Tamariki, Gráinne led the first government pay equity settlement in many years resulting in Oranga Tamariki becoming the first government agency to close the gender pay gap.
This event was about Gráinne’s story as she reflected on tackling some of New Zealand’s most significant conversations to highlight gender pay equity. At the same time, her journey has seen her succeed as an accomplished athlete (Gráinne is an accomplished long-distance swimmer).
Gráinne explained how like training to develop sporting prowess, in which we have to do the work to build muscle that allows us to carry weight, go the distance and sustain ourselves over more extended periods, we also need to be deliberate and build in and around ourselves the necessary support to help us succeed.
Personal and professional resilience is mainly built over time and is often the result of complex challenges faced and learnt from. We all seek resilience, but it is not a spectator sport. Gráinne told us about her journey and how she faced some of the country’s most significant challenges but simultaneously built her resilience.
