Key facts
Programme: Master of Business Analytics
Specialisation: Marketing
Career: Data Analyst, PwC
Why the Master of Business Analytics?
“The Master of Business Analytics (MBusAn) programme appealed because I could see the course design was very professional and had real-world business relevance. The programme offered a lot of opportunities and projects to help students to achieve their career goals. It’s also a good way to help students who don’t have any tech or data background but would like to become analysts in the future."
A beginner-friendly programme
“Because I didn’t have a strong background in mathematics, statistics or technology, it was challenging at the beginning. However, the programme is very beginner-friendly – there are a lot of opportunities for students to practise and improve their understanding, for example in tutorials and with teamwork. The tutorials enabled me to use the knowledge I learned from class to practise my skills. The teamwork aspect helped me to understand how to use tech and data in the real business world.
“I studied accounting and marketing for my bachelors degree, so by completing this programme I wanted to start my career as a data or business analyst while also incorporating my accounting and marketing knowledge. The MBusAn enabled me to successfully achieve this goal – I received multiple offers for positions related to data analysis even before I graduated from the programme."
Tech skills, soft skills and more
“From a tech aspect, the programme taught me a lot of useful skills, such as [how to use] SQL, Python, R and Power BI. From a soft skills aspect, the most important one I gained was the ability to learn quickly. We had a lot of team projects in this programme, so when I encountered any issue or took on a new project, I learned how to pick things up quickly and efficiently."

On-the-job relevance
“I am currently working as a data analyst for Risk Services in PwC. We provide data governance, process analytics, fraud analytics, remediation and more for our customers. The main tech skills I use in this role are SQL, Python and Power BI, and sometimes we’re also involved in storytelling to our customers. I was able to practise all these skills as part of the MBusAn programme.
“In the future, I want to work on data in different industries, such as finance. Because I learned different data knowledge (such as modelling and data visualisation) from the programme, there are a lot of data position opportunities in different industries available to me."
Highlights of the programme
“The highlights of the programme were the great networking opportunities – there were regular guest speakers who helped us understand the real business world – and the combination of learning tech skills and practising soft skills (such as presentation and research skills). This enabled me to find a great job.”
