Why study at the Business School?
"The Business School at UoA is recognized globally. While exploring my options, I reflected on my core values and strengths, which led me to study Commerce alongside my Science degree. The support is strong, the content is highly relevant, and if you take advantage of the opportunities available, you’ll grow both personally and professionally."
How the BCom experience prepared Slavis for the real world
"The BCom experience was highly fascinating and relevant. Some of the case studies I read for my assignments were current and reflected what was actually happening nationally and internationally. I remember learning how to use Excel, Alteryx, and various other systems that I still use in my work today. I recall guest lectures from Industry experts and corporate professionals, which I always looked forward to. I really felt that the BCom programme really prepared me for post-university life."
Getting involved in extracurriculars
"The Tuākana Programme is phenomenal. I was approached to be a Tuākana Tutor in my second semester. Tuākana is a culturally rich and supportive environment where Māori and Pasifika students and staff come together to learn, grow, and succeed. I started as a tutor, became a Head Tutor, and finished my studies as the Tuākana Engagement Coordinator for the Business School. Getting involved will enhance your experience both socially and academically. If you don’t take part, you may look back wishing you had."

Balancing work, study and student life
"I personally think the key to balance is effective planning. I am a detailed planner and I like to plan out my day and week well in advance. When you fail to plan, you are planning to fail! This was extremely helpful for me while I was balancing full-time work and studies, family and church commitments, as well as other extra-curricular activities. It also helped me be 100% present in whatever I was doing and being in the moment."
Unlocking opportunities with scholarships
"I received multiple scholarships both before and during university. You’d be surprised at how much support is available. People want to help, and you just have to apply. Take advantage of these opportunities, actively seek them out, and be proactive in applying. I graduated without a student loan, thanks to the generosity of various individuals and organisations."
