University highlight - Unleash Space
"My university highlight is my time working in the Unleash Space at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). I’ve made friends for life.
"The Unleash Space is a very inspiring place to be in, not just to make things, but also to make good connections. And being in the Unleash Space, surrounded by engineers, designers and business graduates, is a super-exciting place to be – the best place to be in the University, really."
Real-world learning
“We had a lot of start-ups that we worked with during my major. And I saw all of these business aspects that you need to consider when you're creating things: who's your target audience? What’s the market? How viable is your idea?"
Future plans
“In the future I really want to start my own business and continue on the path of innovation and creation. So all of the work that I do in the Unleash Space helps me to get a grasp of these cool new technologies to see where we are actually going with them. I can incorporate all of that into the future me when I'm building a start-up, when I'm making something cool and technical.”
Importance of innovation and creativity
“Innovation is extremely important because without it, we do not develop, and things that do not develop die out. For humankind, innovation is the key difference that separates us from animals; we use our intelligence and creative thinking to overcome any issue. Innovation is what makes us, us.”
Advice for high school students
“Going to university is a natural process of self-development. You should follow your passion – but do keep in mind you need to be practical about your career. Work on your time management and self-discipline while you are still in high school; that way, your university time will be a rich mixture of positive emotions, knowledge and fun that will take you far in life.
“My motto was ‘You need to put in hard effort to actually create something meaningful.’ I think that really corresponds with my life and the way I do things.”
