Welcome to the third edition of Supply Chain Link for 2019.

We have a number of very interesting articles for you this edition. In particular, Mark Singh, the founder and director of IndusHaze Advisory Limited, shares with us his experience and insight into IoT and SCM integration. Further to this, Ian Williamson, partner at KPMG New Zealand, discusses the definitions of Supply Chain Management, Operations, and Value Chain, how they changed through times, and what they mean nowadays. We also have two articles focusing on the protests in Hong Kong and how they affect global supply chains, and New Zealand’s food waste problem and how supply chain technology can offer a solution.

Moreover, you will read about the events we had since the last newsletter and we also highlight some upcoming ones. Valery Pavlov, a senior lecturer in Information Systems and Operation Management, tells us about industrial improvement projects undertaken by ISOM students for some prominent companies in New Zealand and invites you to the project’s exhibition. Booths will be set up for each project on Level 0 of our building and you are welcome to pop in any time between noon and 5pm on Thursday the 26th of September. Parking is available under the building.

We have also a report of a site visit to one of the distribution centres of The Warehouse Group, which the Centre for Supply Chain Management arranged in June. The centre is also planning new activities and After 5 events in the next few months. Most notably, on the 8th of October, we will be hosting a breakfast event which will bring together women who are working in supply chain roles in New Zealand. We also have an After 5 event on the 20th
of November discussing cutting-edge technologies in supply chain. Please watch your email for more details and do feel free to forward our announcements to anyone you feel may be interested.
