The Diversity Agenda
We're part of a nationwide initiative aimed at seeing a more diverse engineering and architecture community in Aotearoa.
The Faculty of Engineering is proud to be a founding partner of the Diversity Agenda, a nationwide campaign spearheaded by Engineering New Zealand, the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and the Association of Consulting Engineers. With input into policy and accreditation, as well as obligations to maintain the integrity of their industries, these professional bodies are well-positioned to influence change across organisations throughout New Zealand. Today, over 80 firms across the country are part of this initiative to see 20 percent more women in engineering and architecture by 2021.
As a tertiary institute, we provide a crucial pipeline of talent that will shape the future of our workforce, and thus have a responsibility to challenge conventions and ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute and succeed.
Our partnership enables us to work more closely together with the people and organisations that will be more prominent in our students' lives beyond graduation. As the Diversity Agenda works towards policies for inclusive practices, our input involves providing the voices, knowledge, and expertise to enrich our growing community of innovators. The initiative additionally complements our goal to see 33% women enrolled in our first-year engineering cohort.
We're here to make sure that we are doing as much as we can to create an awesome environment — shaped by diversity, equity, and inclusion — so that we can continue to inspire people to make a positive impact in the world around them.
