Entry requirements
Find out what it takes to get started with a PhD in Engineering.
To gain entry into the PhD programme in Engineering, you will need to have already completed an honours or masters degree in Engineering, and at least 25% of the degree must be in the form of a research dissertation or thesis. In addition, you will need to have passed appropriate research methodology courses.
The minimum overall average of your degree has to be at least a B+ grade (GPE 6), including a B+ for the research project. You may check your GPE/GPA via the GPE calculator to generate an approximate GPE before applying.
A bridging study option may be an alternative pathway to a PhD, if you do not have the research component from your honours or masters study. This will require approval from the Dean of Graduate Studies.
