Kick Start scholarships
Kick-start your studies with one of 22 Kick Start scholarships available at the start of every academic year for first-year BE(Hons) students.
Each award is worth $2,000 for one year and is aimed at helping you with the "set up" costs in your first year of studying engineering with us.
By confirming your acceptance of this scholarship, you agree to, and understand the following conditions of the award: To receive your scholarship, you must be enrolled and have paid the fees, or have arranged to pay the fees for full-time enrolment (Semesters One and Two) in Part I of a Bachelor of Engineering(Hons).
Kick Start Merit scholarships
- Eight scholarships offered.
- Awarded to all-round students who demonstrate excellence in their academic results and in their personal achievements.
- Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident.

Kick Start City of Sails scholarships
- Six scholarships offered.
- Available only to applicants who live beyond the Auckland metropolitan area*.
- Scholarships will be awarded, based on an applicant’s academic results along with their personal achievements.
- Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident.

*Living beyond the Auckland metropolitan area is defined as a normal permanent home address in New Zealand, which is located either north of Orewa or south of Drury.
Kick Start Māori and Pacific Award
- Four scholarships offered.
- Available only to students of Māori or Pacific Island background.
- Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
- Awarded based on an applicant's academic merit, personality and drive to make a difference.
- Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident.

Edward Connolly Kick Start scholarships
- Up to four scholarships offered.
- Two scholarships will be awarded to all-round outstanding applicants.
- Two will be awarded at the Dean of Engineering’s discretion and will be based on academic merit and all-round ability.
- Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident.
